A weak representation for westerners in the Al-Bashir inauguration event
The elected president, Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir is set to swear in the parliament today. Malawi president, (Head of AU) arrived in Khartoum this morning to participate in the event in addition to the Chadian, Central African, Eritrean , Ethiopian, Mauritian presidents and the former Kenyan president. Egypt, Libya China, Kenya & Qatar have sent representatives. The UN , Arab League, African Union and IGAD are also attending. An official in the European desk at the Ministry of Affairs said the west has lower representation in the event. Governor of South Sudan president, Salva Kiir also arrived in the parliament. Khartoum informs UK on JEM violations action
Mutrif Sidig, Deputy Foreign Minister discussed with the British Ambassador in Khartoum, Dame Rosalind Marsden the trilateral mechanism on Sudan, which was held in Addis last week. Mutrif had acknowledged the ambassador’s role to improve the bilateral relation between UK and Sudan. The meeting also highlighted the situation in Darfur and recent violations carried by JEM in Darfur. Mutrif, however, stated that the government pledges peaceful solutions to the conflict in Darfur. Government Force controls the situation in Jabal Moon
The Spokesman for the Government Force Armed, Khalid Alsawarmi stated that his troops had controlled the situation in Jabel Moon west Dartur and killed 108 persons from the JEM group. Meanwhile, the government has sent military supplies to south Darfur after JEM attacked in the area. Speaking from Doha , Head of the government delegation to the talks Amin Hassan Omer accused JEM of escalating military action in Darfur and their rejection to UNAMID observations for the cease-fire in the area. Border Demarcation Committee set to finalise it’s work on November
The Head of the Borders Demarcation, Abdallah Al-sadig stated that the Committee is set to finalise it’s process by November and will submit it’s report to the presidential office for an approval before the referendum. CPA partners agree on governmental seats
NCP and SPLM have agreed to allocate 28% of parliamentary seats to South Sudan. Speaking to Alakhbar newspaper, Deng Alor Kuol stated that the CPA partners are set to meet next week to discuss the ministerial positions saying that there was not yet any talks on the ministry of Foreign Affairs appointment , but both parties have showed their interest in it. NCP will have 52%, Northern parties 14% and Southern parties 6% of the parliamentary seats. ( Alakhbar ) [Read more →]

NEC reveal that counting has not yet finish in Blue Nile State
The National Electoral Commission has sent a delegation to the Blue Nile State to control the situation on the ground following an SPLM statement claiming their candidate had won. SPLM Candidate for State Governor, Malik Agar urged the Commission to speed up the process and announce the result in an effort to end tensions in the State. NCP Candidate for the area, Farah Agar said that his party paid no attention to Yasser Arman’s statement on the SPLM victory and said the final decision was for NEC to announce. Local observers: “NEC failed to mange the election” A Local Observer Network called Tamam held a press conference yesterday in which they called for the electoral process to be reviewed and the result not accepted. They said that there was no neutrality during the process and most of the NEC staff were from NCP. Tamam also called for a national government involving all political parties to oversee a transition period in which the census result and demarcation process would be reviewed. ( Many Newspapers )

Juba Parties Alliance establishes 4 committees in response to current situation
The Juba Parties Alliance have formed an evaluation committee to assesses parties and individual candidate performance during the election. They also established 3 other committees to mobilise communities for peaceful demonstrations in all states. Head of the Alliance, Faruq Abu Assi said the alliance was set to contact civil society groups, the international community, and INGOs to discuss post election period and their views on it. Opposition Parties hold meeting to discuss NCP proposal for a national government
The NCP said it would invite opposition parties to participate in a national government if they won the election. Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin revealed to the press that the government had invited all opposition parties to participate in the elected government as the country was passing through an historical time. Leader of the National Umma Party Sadig al Mahdi said that his party had considered the NCP proposal in detail, saying that the situation was critical and he called for a peaceful solution through dialogue. Yasser Arman, however, criticised the proposal claiming the participation in an elected government based on an NCP programme would not resolve the country’s problems. 70% of voters should participate to guarantee a successful election process

Deputy of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Abdallah Ahmed revealed that the election would not lead to democratic change, but was a step forward. He added that there were some gaps in the electoral law, which should be reviewed by the legislative council after the election.
