Khalil Ibrahim : ”JEM have control over rural area in Darfur” Leader of JEM, Khalil Ibrahim claimed that his troops had control over the rural area around Nyala and El Fasher and he threatened to attack those cities. Meanwhile, press reports said fighting was continuing between the Sudanese Armed Forces and JEM in south Darfur. ( Altayar _ Many Newspapers )

Initial census results in South Kordofan show an increase in the population
State Governor of South Kordofan, Ahmed Haroun revealed that the census process had been run safely and 80% of the operation had been completed . The census officer stated that there was an increase in the number of the people in the state. ( Alsahafa)

A weak representation for westerners in the Al-Bashir inauguration event
The elected president, Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir is set to swear in the parliament today. Malawi president, (Head of AU) arrived in Khartoum this morning to participate in the event in addition to the Chadian, Central African, Eritrean , Ethiopian, Mauritian presidents and the former Kenyan president. Egypt, Libya China, Kenya & Qatar have sent representatives. The UN , Arab League, African Union and IGAD are also attending. An official in the European desk at the Ministry of Affairs said the west has lower representation in the event. Governor of South Sudan president, Salva Kiir also arrived in the parliament. Egypt confirm its support for the unity of Sudan
The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Head of Intelligence, Omer Suliman discussed with the elected president Omer Al-Bashir the referendum, conflict in Darfur and dispute between River Nile Basin countries. Speaking to press, Aboul Gheit affirmed that Sudan and Egypt have pledged to previous River Nile Basin agreement. He also said that his country would collaborate and engage in discussions to reach a comprehensive agreement with involved countries. Border Demarcation Committee set to finalise it’s work in November
The Head of the Borders Demarcation, Abdallah Al-sadig stated that the Committee is set to finalise it’s process by November and will submit it’s report to the presidential office for an approval before the referendum. Thabo Mbeki calls for resolving Darfur conflict before the referendum
The Head of African Union High Panel, Thabo Mbeki had acknowledged the CPA partners efforts to implement the agreement and call for collaboration to conduct the referendum. Thabo added that arrangements for the referendum should speed up and stressed on the public education for this process. Carter: “ the international community set to accept the election result”
In press conference yesterday, Director of the Carter Centre, Jimmy Carter revealed that the election did not meet the international standard, but the international community would accept its result. He also added that the election process was a step toward democratic change. Meanwhile, Head of the European Union Observer Mission in Sudan, Veronique de Keyser said that the election did not meet the international measure, but it was a good step on the CPA implementation. Opposition Parties hold meeting to discuss NCP proposal for a national government
The NCP said it would invite opposition parties to participate in a national government if they won the election. Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin revealed to the press that the government had invited all opposition parties to participate in the elected government as the country was passing through an historical time. Leader of the National Umma Party Sadig al Mahdi said that his party had considered the NCP proposal in detail, saying that the situation was critical and he called for a peaceful solution through dialogue. Yasser Arman, however, criticised the proposal claiming the participation in an elected government based on an NCP programme would not resolve the country’s problems. Ghazi set to meet Khalil Ibrahim in N’Djamena today
Head of the Government Delegation to the Darfur Peace Talks, Ghazi Salahuddin is set to meet with JEM Leader, Khalil Ibrahim to discuss the implementation of the framework agreement. Chadian officials were set to facilitate talks between the parties in an attempt to resolve disputes on power sharing and security arrangements. Alsahafa newspaper reported that a reliable source was predicting that the government and JEM would reach a final agreement in the upcoming two days.
