Khalil Ibrahim : ”JEM have control over rural area in Darfur” Leader of JEM, Khalil Ibrahim claimed that his troops had control over the rural area around Nyala and El Fasher and he threatened to attack those cities. Meanwhile, press reports said fighting was continuing between the Sudanese Armed Forces and JEM in south Darfur. ( Altayar _ Many Newspapers )

Initial census results in South Kordofan show an increase in the population
State Governor of South Kordofan, Ahmed Haroun revealed that the census process had been run safely and 80% of the operation had been completed . The census officer stated that there was an increase in the number of the people in the state. ( Alsahafa)

Salva Kiir announces new proposal to strengthen unity
President of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir is set to meet with political figures and militias in the south to emphasise the important of the referendum. Speaking on behalf of the SPLM, Mohammed Yusuf stated that his party had developed a plan to engage with all politicians in an attempt to resolve problems and promote the attraction of unity. Ghazi Salahuddin in Doha to discuss the peace process
Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin arrived in Doha yesterday to discuss with Qatari officials the peace process in Darfur and the current situation in an attempt to resume the talks. Head of the government delegation to the talks, Amin Hassan Omer said that the government of Sudan would not accept any conditions from other parties to resume the process. He confirmed that negotiations would start on May 28 with no scope for a possible delay. Amin also suggested that JEM were not serious about a peace process saying the talks would continue despite JEM’s possible non participation. ( Alahdath and Alrayaam )

SPLM plan to conduct the referendum as planned
SPLM General Secretary, Pagan Amum accused the NCP of developing a plan to interrupt security in the south and hinder the referendum. Pagan revealed that the SPLM had developed a five point mechanism to tackle this issue saying that the last option was to announce independence in the Southern Sudan parliament. The SPLM plan covers political, diplomatic, security, community mobilisation and legislative options. ( Alsahafa )

Khartoum informs UK on JEM violations action
Mutrif Sidig, Deputy Foreign Minister discussed with the British Ambassador in Khartoum, Dame Rosalind Marsden the trilateral mechanism on Sudan, which was held in Addis last week. Mutrif had acknowledged the ambassador’s role to improve the bilateral relation between UK and Sudan. The meeting also highlighted the situation in Darfur and recent violations carried by JEM in Darfur. Mutrif, however, stated that the government pledges peaceful solutions to the conflict in Darfur. Opposition parties set to organise a strike against al Turabi arrest
Speaking on behalf of the National Consensus Force in a press conference yesterday, Miriam Alsadig revealed that the group condemned the arrest of the Popular Congress Party Leader, Hassan Al Turabi saying that this action would affect democratic change and hinder the referendum process. Mariam claimed that NCP would use the security and emergency laws to block political activities in the country. Popular Congress Party members stated that they would organise a strike and demonstrations against the arrest. General Secretary for the Party, Kamal Omer said that opposition parties agreed to mobilise the public and organise a number of activities against the arrest. Government Force controls the situation in Jabal Moon
The Spokesman for the Government Force Armed, Khalid Alsawarmi stated that his troops had controlled the situation in Jabel Moon west Dartur and killed 108 persons from the JEM group. Meanwhile, the government has sent military supplies to south Darfur after JEM attacked in the area. Speaking from Doha , Head of the government delegation to the talks Amin Hassan Omer accused JEM of escalating military action in Darfur and their rejection to UNAMID observations for the cease-fire in the area. Egypt confirm its support for the unity of Sudan
The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Head of Intelligence, Omer Suliman discussed with the elected president Omer Al-Bashir the referendum, conflict in Darfur and dispute between River Nile Basin countries. Speaking to press, Aboul Gheit affirmed that Sudan and Egypt have pledged to previous River Nile Basin agreement. He also said that his country would collaborate and engage in discussions to reach a comprehensive agreement with involved countries.
