Three opposition leaders blocked from participating in the ICC conference
The authorities in Khartoum airport prevented three opposition leaders from travelling to Kampala to participate in a conference organised by the ICC and confiscated their passports. Mariam AlMahdi from the National Umma Party, Mahmud Salih from the Communist Party and Al-Bukhari Al-Ja’ali from DUP Original held a press conference yesterday in which they stated their objection. Mariam criticised the decision saying that the action was a consequence of structural changes following the election whereby the government arrests politicians, journalists and re-introduces press censorship. A government official downplayed the ICC conference saying and the decision was taken in order that Sudanese views on non-collaboration with the court could be upheld. A weak representation for westerners in the Al-Bashir inauguration event
The elected president, Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir is set to swear in the parliament today. Malawi president, (Head of AU) arrived in Khartoum this morning to participate in the event in addition to the Chadian, Central African, Eritrean , Ethiopian, Mauritian presidents and the former Kenyan president. Egypt, Libya China, Kenya & Qatar have sent representatives. The UN , Arab League, African Union and IGAD are also attending. An official in the European desk at the Ministry of Affairs said the west has lower representation in the event. Governor of South Sudan president, Salva Kiir also arrived in the parliament. Opposition parties set to organise a strike against al Turabi arrest
Speaking on behalf of the National Consensus Force in a press conference yesterday, Miriam Alsadig revealed that the group condemned the arrest of the Popular Congress Party Leader, Hassan Al Turabi saying that this action would affect democratic change and hinder the referendum process. Mariam claimed that NCP would use the security and emergency laws to block political activities in the country. Popular Congress Party members stated that they would organise a strike and demonstrations against the arrest. General Secretary for the Party, Kamal Omer said that opposition parties agreed to mobilise the public and organise a number of activities against the arrest. CPA partners agree on governmental seats
NCP and SPLM have agreed to allocate 28% of parliamentary seats to South Sudan. Speaking to Alakhbar newspaper, Deng Alor Kuol stated that the CPA partners are set to meet next week to discuss the ministerial positions saying that there was not yet any talks on the ministry of Foreign Affairs appointment , but both parties have showed their interest in it. Border Demarcation Committee resumes its activities
The Border Demarcation Committee resumed its process yesterday in the areas between Sannar in Blue Nile and Upper Nile States as a starting point. Head of the Committee , Abdallah Al Sadig revealed that his team have collected the information and mapped the border to start the actual implementation on the ground. Al – Sadig added that the committee has searched for historical documents from UK, Egypt and Sudanese institutes. In response to a question on the process delay, he stated that there were technical mistakes , which have no relation with the political situation, but still there are five points that need to be resolved at the presidential level. The elections result will be announced in the coming 48 hours
National Electoral Commission revealed that the final election result will be announced within 48 hours, subject to remaining information from the Equatorial and the Unity States, which was anticipated to finish soon. Head of the Technical Committee for NEC, Al Hadi Mohamed Ahmed said that the state committees were not authorize to announce the results. Opposition Parties hold meeting to discuss NCP proposal for a national government
The NCP said it would invite opposition parties to participate in a national government if they won the election. Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin revealed to the press that the government had invited all opposition parties to participate in the elected government as the country was passing through an historical time. Leader of the National Umma Party Sadig al Mahdi said that his party had considered the NCP proposal in detail, saying that the situation was critical and he called for a peaceful solution through dialogue. Yasser Arman, however, criticised the proposal claiming the participation in an elected government based on an NCP programme would not resolve the country’s problems. 70% of voters should participate to guarantee a successful election process

Deputy of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Abdallah Ahmed revealed that the election would not lead to democratic change, but was a step forward. He added that there were some gaps in the electoral law, which should be reviewed by the legislative council after the election. SPLM boycott elections in North Sudan

In a press conference yesterday, Pagan Amum revealed that the SPLM would boycott elections in 13 states in North Sudan due to violations of the law and fraud. Pagan said that fraud has reached a stage where it had become impossible to continue in the process. He added that the government had abused country resources for its campaign and were controlling the Electoral Commission. African Observation Mission reveals “There are some excesses in the election process”

African Union Observation Mission to Khartoum held a press conference yesterday stating that there were some violations with the election process, which should be resolved to ensure the democratic changes. The Head of the Mission, John Kofwor said that the Observers are preparing an impartial report, saying that the potential of conflict during the elections is low and encourage the political parties to participate in the elections.
