Salva Kiir announces new proposal to strengthen unity
President of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir is set to meet with political figures and militias in the south to emphasise the important of the referendum. Three opposition leaders blocked from participating in the ICC conference
The authorities in Khartoum airport prevented three opposition leaders from travelling to Kampala to participate in a conference organised by the ICC and confiscated their passports. Mariam AlMahdi from the National Umma Party, Mahmud Salih from the Communist Party and Al-Bukhari Al-Ja’ali from DUP Original held a press conference yesterday in which they stated their objection. Mariam criticised the decision saying that the action was a consequence of structural changes following the election whereby the government arrests politicians, journalists and re-introduces press censorship. A government official downplayed the ICC conference saying and the decision was taken in order that Sudanese views on non-collaboration with the court could be upheld. Opposition parties set to organise a strike against al Turabi arrest
Speaking on behalf of the National Consensus Force in a press conference yesterday, Miriam Alsadig revealed that the group condemned the arrest of the Popular Congress Party Leader, Hassan Al Turabi saying that this action would affect democratic change and hinder the referendum process. Mariam claimed that NCP would use the security and emergency laws to block political activities in the country. Popular Congress Party members stated that they would organise a strike and demonstrations against the arrest. General Secretary for the Party, Kamal Omer said that opposition parties agreed to mobilise the public and organise a number of activities against the arrest. Government Force controls the situation in Jabal Moon
The Spokesman for the Government Force Armed, Khalid Alsawarmi stated that his troops had controlled the situation in Jabel Moon west Dartur and killed 108 persons from the JEM group. Meanwhile, the government has sent military supplies to south Darfur after JEM attacked in the area. Speaking from Doha , Head of the government delegation to the talks Amin Hassan Omer accused JEM of escalating military action in Darfur and their rejection to UNAMID observations for the cease-fire in the area. Egypt confirm its support for the unity of Sudan
The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Head of Intelligence, Omer Suliman discussed with the elected president Omer Al-Bashir the referendum, conflict in Darfur and dispute between River Nile Basin countries. Speaking to press, Aboul Gheit affirmed that Sudan and Egypt have pledged to previous River Nile Basin agreement. He also said that his country would collaborate and engage in discussions to reach a comprehensive agreement with involved countries. Michael O’Neill urges the government to pledge for Doha Talk
UK Special Envoy to Sudan, Michael O’Neill discussed with Mutrif Sidig, Deputy Foreign Minister the humanitarian and security situations in Darfur. Speaking to press, Michael said that the government of Sudan and the UN have not fully considered the problems that might develop from the current situation. He confirmed that UK would continue support the CPA implementation calling for establishment of human rights and referendum commissions. The current government will be dissolved tomorrow
Alahdath newspaper reported that a reliable source stated that the elected president , Omer Al-Bashir is set to dissolve the government tomorrow and appointed ministers managers to rule the country until a new office is formed. The newspaper reported that there was a suggestion to task Minni Minawi and Musa Mohammed Ahmed (the presidential advisers) to form the new government for this period. Meanwhile, NCP has discussed a proposal of engaging other political figures on the elected government; stating the National Consensus Force seats in the parliament would remain the same based on the Cairo agreement. Thabo Mbeki calls for resolving Darfur conflict before the referendum
The Head of African Union High Panel, Thabo Mbeki had acknowledged the CPA partners efforts to implement the agreement and call for collaboration to conduct the referendum. Thabo added that arrangements for the referendum should speed up and stressed on the public education for this process. Al-Bashir wins the election and has 68% of votes cast

The National Electoral Commission has announced Omer Al-Bashir as the winner for the presidential elections with Yasser Arman coming second with 21% from votes cast . Head of the National Electoral Commission , Abel Alier revealed that 10,114,310 votes were cast in total. Al-Bashir addressed a NCP rally yesterday saying that his party won the election but should prepare for the battle for unity.
