A weak representation for westerners in the Al-Bashir inauguration event
The elected president, Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir is set to swear in the parliament today. Malawi president, (Head of AU) arrived in Khartoum this morning to participate in the event in addition to the Chadian, Central African, Eritrean , Ethiopian, Mauritian presidents and the former Kenyan president. Egypt, Libya China, Kenya & Qatar have sent representatives. The UN , Arab League, African Union and IGAD are also attending. An official in the European desk at the Ministry of Affairs said the west has lower representation in the event. Governor of South Sudan president, Salva Kiir also arrived in the parliament. Ghazi Salahuddin in Doha to discuss the peace process
Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin arrived in Doha yesterday to discuss with Qatari officials the peace process in Darfur and the current situation in an attempt to resume the talks. Head of the government delegation to the talks, Amin Hassan Omer said that the government of Sudan would not accept any conditions from other parties to resume the process. He confirmed that negotiations would start on May 28 with no scope for a possible delay. Amin also suggested that JEM were not serious about a peace process saying the talks would continue despite JEM’s possible non participation. ( Alahdath and Alrayaam )

SPLM plan to conduct the referendum as planned
SPLM General Secretary, Pagan Amum accused the NCP of developing a plan to interrupt security in the south and hinder the referendum. Pagan revealed that the SPLM had developed a five point mechanism to tackle this issue saying that the last option was to announce independence in the Southern Sudan parliament. The SPLM plan covers political, diplomatic, security, community mobilisation and legislative options. ( Alsahafa )

An officer at the National Security Agency rejected accusations that the organisation had tortured Ray Alshaab journalists saying that the detainees had been treated in accordance to the law. ( Many Newspapers )

Khartoum informs UK on JEM violations action
Mutrif Sidig, Deputy Foreign Minister discussed with the British Ambassador in Khartoum, Dame Rosalind Marsden the trilateral mechanism on Sudan, which was held in Addis last week. Mutrif had acknowledged the ambassador’s role to improve the bilateral relation between UK and Sudan. The meeting also highlighted the situation in Darfur and recent violations carried by JEM in Darfur. Mutrif, however, stated that the government pledges peaceful solutions to the conflict in Darfur. Opposition parties set to organise a strike against al Turabi arrest
Speaking on behalf of the National Consensus Force in a press conference yesterday, Miriam Alsadig revealed that the group condemned the arrest of the Popular Congress Party Leader, Hassan Al Turabi saying that this action would affect democratic change and hinder the referendum process. Mariam claimed that NCP would use the security and emergency laws to block political activities in the country. Popular Congress Party members stated that they would organise a strike and demonstrations against the arrest. General Secretary for the Party, Kamal Omer said that opposition parties agreed to mobilise the public and organise a number of activities against the arrest. Government Force controls the situation in Jabal Moon
The Spokesman for the Government Force Armed, Khalid Alsawarmi stated that his troops had controlled the situation in Jabel Moon west Dartur and killed 108 persons from the JEM group. Meanwhile, the government has sent military supplies to south Darfur after JEM attacked in the area. Speaking from Doha , Head of the government delegation to the talks Amin Hassan Omer accused JEM of escalating military action in Darfur and their rejection to UNAMID observations for the cease-fire in the area. Thabo Mbeki calls for resolving Darfur conflict before the referendum
The Head of African Union High Panel, Thabo Mbeki had acknowledged the CPA partners efforts to implement the agreement and call for collaboration to conduct the referendum. Thabo added that arrangements for the referendum should speed up and stressed on the public education for this process. Carter: “ the international community set to accept the election result”
In press conference yesterday, Director of the Carter Centre, Jimmy Carter revealed that the election did not meet the international standard, but the international community would accept its result. He also added that the election process was a step toward democratic change. Meanwhile, Head of the European Union Observer Mission in Sudan, Veronique de Keyser said that the election did not meet the international measure, but it was a good step on the CPA implementation. Opposition Parties hold meeting to discuss NCP proposal for a national government
The NCP said it would invite opposition parties to participate in a national government if they won the election. Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin revealed to the press that the government had invited all opposition parties to participate in the elected government as the country was passing through an historical time. Leader of the National Umma Party Sadig al Mahdi said that his party had considered the NCP proposal in detail, saying that the situation was critical and he called for a peaceful solution through dialogue. Yasser Arman, however, criticised the proposal claiming the participation in an elected government based on an NCP programme would not resolve the country’s problems. National Electoral Commission admit mistakes on the first day of polling

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has admitted that mistakes were made yesterday and 26 polling stations were effected by technical problems. Head of the Technical Committee , General Hadi said that the Commission was set to resolve all technical problems adding that if problems were not resolved the election would be delayed by up to two months in some constituencies such as While Nile State. He added that the situation in White Nile State required election cards to be re-printed in the UK and South Africa. SPLM boycott elections in North Sudan

In a press conference yesterday, Pagan Amum revealed that the SPLM would boycott elections in 13 states in North Sudan due to violations of the law and fraud. Pagan said that fraud has reached a stage where it had become impossible to continue in the process. He added that the government had abused country resources for its campaign and were controlling the Electoral Commission.
