Salva Kiir announces new proposal to strengthen unity
President of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir is set to meet with political figures and militias in the south to emphasise the important of the referendum. Speaking on behalf of the SPLM, Mohammed Yusuf stated that his party had developed a plan to engage with all politicians in an attempt to resolve problems and promote the attraction of unity. Disagreement between CPA partners over establishment of Human Rights Commission
SPLM, General Secretary, Yasser Arman revealed that the two CPA partners have reached an agreement on CPA implementation, Darfur conflict and democratic changes. The agreement also allocated 9 ministerial and 46 parliamentary seats for the SPLM. Alahdath newspaper reported that despite these agreements, the two partners failed to establish the Human Rights Commission and discuss Abyei issues. Border Demarcation Committee set to finalise it’s work on November
The Head of the Borders Demarcation, Abdallah Al-sadig stated that the Committee is set to finalise it’s process by November and will submit it’s report to the presidential office for an approval before the referendum. CPA partners agree on governmental seats
NCP and SPLM have agreed to allocate 28% of parliamentary seats to South Sudan. Speaking to Alakhbar newspaper, Deng Alor Kuol stated that the CPA partners are set to meet next week to discuss the ministerial positions saying that there was not yet any talks on the ministry of Foreign Affairs appointment , but both parties have showed their interest in it. NCP will have 52%, Northern parties 14% and Southern parties 6% of the parliamentary seats. ( Alakhbar ) [Read more →]

Thabo Mbeki calls for resolving Darfur conflict before the referendum
The Head of African Union High Panel, Thabo Mbeki had acknowledged the CPA partners efforts to implement the agreement and call for collaboration to conduct the referendum. Thabo added that arrangements for the referendum should speed up and stressed on the public education for this process. Al-Bashir wins the election and has 68% of votes cast

The National Electoral Commission has announced Omer Al-Bashir as the winner for the presidential elections with Yasser Arman coming second with 21% from votes cast . Head of the National Electoral Commission , Abel Alier revealed that 10,114,310 votes were cast in total. Al-Bashir addressed a NCP rally yesterday saying that his party won the election but should prepare for the battle for unity. NEC : “election’s result will be announced after all the appeals are considered”
The National Electoral Commission revealed that 95% of the election results in North Sudan have been completed, but there were still some delays at legislative and executive levels in some states. Head of the Technical Committee for NEC, Al Hadi Mohamed Ahmed stated to the press that the result was expected to be finalised today. NEC reveal that counting has not yet finish in Blue Nile State
The National Electoral Commission has sent a delegation to the Blue Nile State to control the situation on the ground following an SPLM statement claiming their candidate had won. SPLM Candidate for State Governor, Malik Agar urged the Commission to speed up the process and announce the result in an effort to end tensions in the State. NCP Candidate for the area, Farah Agar said that his party paid no attention to Yasser Arman’s statement on the SPLM victory and said the final decision was for NEC to announce. Opposition Parties hold meeting to discuss NCP proposal for a national government
The NCP said it would invite opposition parties to participate in a national government if they won the election. Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salahuddin revealed to the press that the government had invited all opposition parties to participate in the elected government as the country was passing through an historical time. Leader of the National Umma Party Sadig al Mahdi said that his party had considered the NCP proposal in detail, saying that the situation was critical and he called for a peaceful solution through dialogue. Yasser Arman, however, criticised the proposal claiming the participation in an elected government based on an NCP programme would not resolve the country’s problems.
